The Palestinian Heritage Center (PHC) was established in the year 1991,
borne by a family who envisioned and dreamt of preserving and sharing
with the world the true beauty of Palestinian people and their heritage.
The Center is headed by the original Founder and Director, Maha Saca, who
incessantly work towards reviving, documenting, and promoting
Palestinian culture through various events; local and international
publications, speaking engagements, exhibitions, and performances have
been received very well by audiences around the world. Nevertheless, the
truest form of our people’s long standing cultural achievement and pride
can be seen and experienced at our Center’s permanent exhibit in the
city of Bethlehem.
Please refer to our
(AWARDS AND HONORS) link to find out more about our
recent endeavors.
Since inception, PHC has had the most profound affect in the local
community by providing employment to artisans from area villages and
refugee camps throughout Bethlehem and West Bank regions. Too often it
has been true that the earning from the Center is the sole source of
income for the artisans and their families. This dire circumstance is
attributed to the current political situation where most Palestinian men
are not able or allowed to find adequate work to support himself and or
his household; limitations such as curfew enforcement, lack of job
availability, work permits and other restrictions may have abbreviated
our peoples’ sprit at times, but only reinforces the necessity to
further preserve the Palestinian heritage. Above and beyond offering
employment opportunities and sources of income, PHC has been providing
these families a sense of independence and dignity amidst total poverty
and political turbulence.
The PHC has been able to create a small revenue stream by proceeds from
various events and retail sales of artisans’ creations both locally and
through our web portal. Furthermore, the day-to-day operation has been
made possible by full support and continuous volunteer efforts of
Director Saca’s family members.
Your monetary contribution will allow the Palestinian Heritage Center to
continue its important mission of protecting an amazing culture from
fading while providing the community around the city of Bethlehem with
solid and dignified means of employment.
